A man accused of shooting someone in Trinity County early Tuesday afternoon has been captured following a brief manhunt.
Shyan Spykes, 35, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in relation to the shooting. It’s currently unclear what transpired leading up to the violence, but Trinity County Sheriff Woody Wallace believes that his infamous history with crime and substance abuse likely contributed to the act.

“[Spykes] is a frequent flyer with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office; we’ve had many dealings with him,” Sheriff Wallace said in a video posted to Facebook. “Occasionally, he gets high on meth and decides to do something stupid. Well today, he decided to shoot somebody.”
Along with his reputation for crime in Trinity County, Spykes has a lengthy rap sheet in Harris County, mainly consisting of vehicle thefts and drug possession offenses.
Search and scent dogs were deployed in the Pine Crest subdivision as authorities narrowed their search. Citizens were advised to be aware of heavy law enforcement presence in the area and to lock away their pets as authorities searched the area.
A little more than an hour after the search was announced, Sheriff Wallace announced on Facebook that Spykes had been captured.
“Huge thank you to Wynne Unit and Warden Bowers for sending out a tracking team of blood hounds,” his post read. “Great job and warning to potential criminals that Trinity County will bring them in.”
