HOUSTON – Fireworks can be thrilling for humans but often terrifying for pets for various reasons.
Houston’s SPCA warns that pets can easily run away during these celebrations.

Here are some tips to ensure their safety:
1. Update IDs and Microchips
Ensure your pet’s identification is current. In Houston, all pets four months or older must be microchipped, or owners could face fines up to $500. For pets too young to be microchipped, collars and tags are recommended.
2. Bring Your Pets Inside
If your pets usually stay outdoors, bring them inside during the fireworks. This will help keep them calm and safe.
3. Create an Indoor Plan
For indoor pets, designate a separate room to prevent them from getting overwhelmed. Ensure they have their favorite toys, food, and water. If you have guests, ask them to keep doors closed to prevent pets from escaping.
4. Ensure Pets Get Along
If you are bringing an outdoor dog inside where an indoor cat resides, keep them in separate areas to avoid conflicts.
