HOUSTON – As Houston residents recover from the damage and power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl, the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA) is working to help its fellow restauranteurs.
Through its TX Restaurant Relief Fund, the TRA says it will be working to help raise money for struggling restaurants impacted by Hurricane Beryl.
“By uniting as one restaurant community under the Restaurants Respond banner, we can combine the spirit of hospitality with the strength of Texans to help our neighbors in need,” the TRA said in its form.
On Thursday, KPRC 2 reporter Deven Clarke spoke with Chef Ryan Lachaine, partner of Riel in Montrose.
He is part of a class-action lawsuit against CenterPoint Energy due to the power outages from Beryl, which left millions of customers without electricity for days.
“We didn’t think it was going to be this bad,” Lachaine said. “You lose almost everything, right? Your walk-in cooler is down, so your produce is done first, and the protein starts to go. We’re losing revenue of tens of thousands of dollars so far, and also my staff isn’t making any money either.”
Reporter John Paul Barajas will have more on this story in a full report.
