One of the most wanted sex offenders in the state of Texas has been captured in Polk County, officials announced.
Livingston resident Spencer Alexander Smith, 32, is facing charges involving two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child. His alleged crimes were alarming enough to land him on the Department of Public Safety’s list of 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders prior to his capture.

The successful arrest operation occurred on July 18, but it wasn’t announced by authorities until July 30. The project involved a collaboration between the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division.
“The operation involved hours of diligent searching and coordination between local and state law enforcement agencies. Their tireless efforts culminated in taking this wanted fugitive into custody without incident,” Polk County Sheriff Byron Lyons said in a post on Facebook announcing the arrest.
Smith is now incarcerated in Polk County Jail on bonds totaling $1 million.
