The crime happened in January 2023. At the time, deputies said they received a phone call from Dicus’s parent’s regarding the death of a woman, later identified as Diaz. Deputies arrived at the home located in the 200 block of Oak Hollow Boulevard and found portions of Diaz’s body dismembered and the home covered in blood.

Sheriff Troy Guidry said the newlywed couple was living in a small cabin behind the parent’s main home, which is where they believe Dicus committed the murder.

The parents told deputies that their son came inside their home and made some type of statement, prompting them to check the home where they found the body and immediately called 911.

Investigators said they believe Dicus used a kitchen knife to partially dismember Diaz’s body and described the scene as being very “gruesome.”

A press release from the Waller County Criminal District Attorney’s Office said during the pre-trial phase of the case, potential mental health issues were raised regarding Dicus’s competency to stand trial. A court-ordered examination found Dicus was competent.

Dicus ultimately took a plea agreement with the state and thus has waived his right to appeal the verdict. The District Attorney’s Office said the 40 year prison sentence agreement was discussed with the victim’s family before the plea was accepted.

“Because of the aggravated nature of the offense, Dicus will not be eligible for parole until 2043 at the earlies,” the press release stated.

“Waller County does not tolerate domestic violence,” said Waller County Criminal District Attorney Sean Whittmore. “Heinous crimes like this one will not go unanswered, we will seek justice for the victims of domestic violence and send a message to the perpetrators that here, we fight for our victims.”
