Sen. Ted Cruz details what the ‘Justice for Jocelyn Act’ will look like

Migrants must stay in custody, not catch and release

Sen. Ted Cruz held a press conference Friday morning on the “Justice for Jocelyn Act” to crack down on the Department of Homeland Security’s “Alternative to Detention.”

Cruz said during the press conference that the law would mandate the administration would have to detain migrants in custody while their cases are proceeding, instead of releasing migrants.

The law says the administration would also have to hold migrants in detention centers as long as beds are available.

Cruz says that migrants who are released with ankle bracelets must have the bracelets monitored at all times.

He also said that any migrant with an ankle monitor must be given a curfew and be at home between the hours of 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Cruz said during the press conference that the majority of crimes happen late at night, and the curfew would help reduce of chances of crimes being committed.

The bill also says that any migrants who violates any terms of the act would immediately face deportation.
