HOUSTON – The death of a Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Deputy has many in shock, especially loved ones who remember Maher Husseini as a helpful and ambitious individual.
BACKGROUND: Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constable murdered while on his way to work
Husseini was gunned down Tuesday while on the way to work after a man walked up to his vehicle at the intersection of Richmond Avenue and Fondren Road and fired several rounds into the SUV, according to Pct. 4 Constable Mark Herman.
The deputy constable’s identity was released once his wife, who was traveling back from out of town, was officially notified about his death. Herman said Husseini has been with the department since 2021 and patrolled the South-Central District.
Loved ones I spoke to expressed their shock and dismay at what happened, including Husseini’s older brother, who said Husseini first came to the U.S. from Jerusalem 30 years ago for college.
“He wanted to be like our father, he is a professor,” his brother said.
Records show Husseini received his bachelor’s degree from Governors State University and Texas Southern University confirms in December 2015, he was awarded a PhD in Administration of Justice.
In addition to his education in the classroom, Husseini accrued 1,437 hours of law enforcement education, in fields including school-based law enforcement, missing and exploited children, and child abuse prevention and investigation.

He was also recently promoted to the rank of corporal, according to a photo posted on Constable Mark Herman’s Facebook page showing Husseini along with five others who were honored within the department.
Friends tell me Husseini had a visionary mindset and was very ambitious. His sudden death was seen as so many goals becoming unrealized. His brother said it was common to hear people speak highly of Husseini.
“You like to hear that,” he said. “Every day, you hear the people talking about him [sic] ‘good guy,’ what more do you want? Thank for God [sic].”
Husseini leaves behind two young children, about 12 and 15, who are dealing with their dad’s death as all their friends and family heard the news. It almost seemed unfathomable, he said, especially because his brother was an officer.
“It’s a shock to believe,” his brother explained. “It’s not easy.”
