CenterPoint Energy has been holding Open Houses across the Houston area in recent weeks, giving residents a chance to share their concerns about the company’s response to Hurricane Beryl. Their latest event was held Tuesday in the Fifth Ward community.
At Tuesday’s event, customers were invited to check out ‘informational stations’ highlighting the ways CenterPoint has improved infrastructure, customer communication, and the company’s outage tracker.

Customers shared their frustrations about the outage tracker with KPRC 2 following Hurricane Beryl, saying it failed to update and give them information on when their power would come back.
On August 1, the company rolled out a new and improved tracker for customers to access this important information.
“The biggest difference with this new outage tracker is the fact that it is in the cloud, so it is auto scalable. It can handle the capacity,” said Kimberly Middleton, Director of Performance and Strategy.
These improvements are part of the Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative, which also includes:
- Installing stronger and more storm-resilient poles
- Trimming or removing vegetation from CenterPoint lines
- Installing automated devices to reduce customer outages and improving restoration times for those who do.
“We have heard the calls for change, and we are taking action now,” said CenterPoint President and CEO Jason Wells.
