Deputies responded to the scene and found Johnson outside his parked car, unresponsive with gunshot wounds. He was flown by helicopter to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Johnson’s family said he lived in Missouri City and graduated from Ridge Point High School in the spring. He was supposed to start his new job on Tuesday. He also had a black 2011 Camaro with gold rims that he loved.
“Cody loved life. He was an athlete,” his mother Amy Juneau said. “He was a go getter. He was always trying to make people laugh.”
“He would make you laugh through your sides. He would challenge you in ways that you never thought you’d be challenged,” said Mike Johnson, Cody’s father.
One of his biggest passions was motorcycles and cars.
“That’s an understatement. Yeah, yeah. Cody has been passionate about cars and vehicles since he was a toddler,” Juneau said.
He was excited to start his new job on Tuesday and spoke to his parents about it on Friday.
“In fact, he said it was one of his best days he’s been having. He was so happy,” said Mike Johnson.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting may have stemmed from a road rage incident. Detectives do not have a description of the shooter, but are asking anyone with any information to come forward.
“We need answers. He was one of the lights of the world that you don’t see often. The world lost an incredible, incredible kid,” said Mike Johnson.
“Just asking you as his mom, justice for my baby is just, anybody knows anything. He was the best kid,” Juneau said.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
