From grass to turf: Woodlands Township park renovations leaving unwanted rubber in neighborhood

A notice sign from Woodlands Water posted Falconwing Park’s construction sign.

This notice was posted on Monday October 2nd.

The notice gives the construction site 48 hours to apply a lining to capture loose sediment and rubber pellets. The rubber pellets are being used to make a turf field that once was a grass field, a change that families in The Woodlands are not happy about.

These pictures sent to KPRC 2′s Help Desk show rubber pellets appearing where they shouldn’t be.

Alex, who grew up using the park, is most concerned about the pellets reaching the storm water system.

“My concern is the contamination of the rubber pellets they are not doing anything to prevent the rubber from contaminating the nearby greenbelt its spilling on to the street,” said Alex.

The Woodlands Township website says these pellets have been tested for PFAS and do not contain them.
