KATY, Texas – Surveillance video shows a box truck slamming into several parked vehicles on a street in the Katy area.
No one was hurt, but no one has been arrested or charged in the incident either.
Nearly two months later, the impact of the hit-and-run is still evident. Several vehicles on River Sage Dr. are yet to be repaired. At least one vehicle was totaled, and no one has taken responsibility.
On Sept. 15, people who live on River Sage Dr. near Barker Cypress were enjoying a peaceful night. Then, around 11 p.m., along came a box truck.
“He was like, crazy,” Raquel Pineda, one of the victims, said. “He was like bumping. First, he hit right there, and then hit the other guy, and then he bumped into my truck.”
Two of Pineda’s vehicles were struck, leaving the mother-of-four to scramble to find ways to get to work.
Next door to Pineda, Bernardo Balderas said surveillance video showed the moments the box truck slammed into his pickup truck, forcing it to crash into the car in front of it.
Balderas says his truck was totaled, and he still hasn’t been able to get a new one. Neighbors say a total of seven vehicles were hit during the rampage, and the driver was able to get away despite Good Samaritans trying to subdue him.
“He was intoxicated, maybe drunk. And when they pulled him down, he was still driving in his mind,” Freddy Avan said.
“Even after they pulled him out of the truck?” KPRC 2′s Deven Clarke asked.
“Yes, he was still driving in his mind,” Avan responded.
Witnesses said another car pulled up, put the seemingly intoxicated box truck driver inside, then drove off, never to be seen again.
“They thought they were helping, to stop this guy. But no, they took him away from the scene,” Avan said.
Avan owns Smart Engine and Performance Auto Repair Body Shop. One of the damaged vehicles belongs to one of his customers, who showed him the video.
Avan said he came and helped the victims file crash reports. The reports list the box truck as belonging to Road Wire Trucking LLC on Southwest Fwy.
Just like the past two months of the victims failed attempts to reach the company, when we tried to call, no answer.
Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigators said this is an open and active case. Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
The vehicle owners who spoke to KPRC 2 said they want whoever was behind the wheel that night, to pay for what they’ve done.
