The crash occurred at around 3:05 a.m. on the morning of Nov. 22 and involved a stationary truck, a gray Mazda 3, and a white Chevrolet Impala. Katherine Hutson, the deputy constable involved in the crash, was working extra employment by assisting with road repairs at the time. Her 8-year-old daughter, Kacey, was also present.

Police said the Mazda 3 crashed into Hutson’s Impala, which had its hazard lights on, causing that vehicle to crash into the stationary truck. The impact of the crash caused Hutson’s vehicle to burst into flames.

Police said Hutson and Kacey were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mazda 3 had two occupants—Alvarado and a passenger. Police said the passenger of the Mazda 3 was transported to the hospital for evaluation, while Alvarado remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Officials later determined that he was impaired at the time of the wreck.
