HOUSTON – A family torn apart during the holidays after a hit and run driver claims a woman’s life.
This happened this past Tuesday night on Scott and Mallow.
“I had talk to her a day before,” said Chyna Mosquera about her mother, 44-year-old, Misty King.
In addition to a Merry Christmas, Mosquera was looking forward to spending a special proud moment with her mom next week.
“We were getting ready for my graduation, and she was so excited, saying how she was going to be there, and she was like ‘I’m going to have my pretty black and white dress on, and I’m going to be there for you,’” Mosquera said.
Now, Mosquera will be crossing the stage to graduate from TSU without her mother in the audience.
“She won’t see me get married, she won’t see me graduate, she won’t see me have kids, she won’t see me do anything,” Mosquera said.
This past Tuesday night around 9 p.m., King was crossing the street on Scott and Mallow when a white Ford pick up truck ran her over, killing her.
“Like you could’ve stopped. You know? She was a mother, she was a best friend, she was a daughter, a sister, a cousin, an aunt,” Mosquera said.
A surveillance camera at a nearby business shows the moments that white truck came flying around the corner and hit King without stopping.
“Her body was just laying on the ground on her back and her face all bloody,” said Kevin Jones who frequents the area and happened to arrive moments after King was struck. “We called the police and somebody said they already received the call and sent somebody.”
With the holidays approaching, Mosquera and her family’s grief is compounded knowing her 18-year-old brother was also killed in a hit and run back in 2020. She says one of the vehicles involved in that incident stopped but the other was never seen again.
“With my brother, when he left me and my mom, we would kind of be a little down around the holidays, but I would have her, but now both of them are gone so it’s going to be very difficult for me,” Mosquera said.
King’s family says her funeral is scheduled for December 19. In the meantime, they are begging anyone out there who may have any information to come forward, you can call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS. You will remain anonymous.
