Tip leads deputies to known sex offender in Pasadena

PASADENA – A tip to the Harris County Sheriff's Office's mobile app led deputies to a known sex offender, who deputies say was selling drugs out of his house and living with one of his children and six other children.

Shawn Hayes claimed he was living at a home along Easy Street in La Porte, when he was actually in Pasadena, said authorities. The sex offender has failed to register for the past three years, according to deputies.

Hayes appeared in court Thursday morning. His bond conditions include not having contact with children under 17, including the six children that were living in the house with him, and wearing an electronic monitor.

Hayes was sentenced to five years in prison in 2002 for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. Deputies said he avoided authorities for so long thanks to a surveillance system he set up on the property.

Deputies seized several surveillance cameras, weapons, prescription pills and drugs.
