HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting on the city's southwest side.
Investigators said someone shot a man multiple times around 6 p.m. Sunday at the Pines of Westbury apartment complex at the 12600 block of Dunlap Drive near Fonmeadow Drive.
Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots, then seeing the victim running through the complex, then collapse on the sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"I got a phone call and they said someone shot my son in the back," the victim's mother, Denice Adams, told KPRC. "He was running for his life."
Adams identified the victim as 38-year-old Deontra Smith.
"I'm just in denial right now. I know god is good and I just hope they catch the people that did this," she said.
Investigators did not say whether there is a suspect.
