KATY, Texas – A Katy ISD elementary school principal has been placed on administrative leave and parents want to know why.
The district sent out a letter to parents Friday notifying them that Cecilia PĂ©rez, the principal at Polly Ann McRoberts Elementary School, is on leave pending a review of "administrative matters."
"I have more questions than answers really," said parent John Tokarski about the notification letter. "Is it something we need to be concerned about? Is it something to do with the school? With the kids?"
As of Friday night, Katy ISD would only say Perez's "supervision is under review."
The district also added, "Administrative leave does not necessarily imply wrong doing or involvement with regard to a particular matter. Per District procedures, personnel matters are handled in a confidential manner."
Still parents say, they want to know the particular accusation against Perez.
"I hope the parents actually get to find out what's going on," PTA member Monica Mason said. "An actual straight forward answer."
Seeking an explanation, Channel 2 went to Perez's home but no one answered the door.
According to Katy ISD, Perez became principal at McRoberts Elementary in 2013 following a stint as assistant principal at Golbow Elementary.
Several of Perez's former teachers at Golbow Elementary contacted Channel Friday upon learning of Perez's leave.
Many of them said they repeatedly told the district that Perez created a "difficult work environment."
"My fellow (teachers) were basically berated in front of other students and in front of other teachers," said Toby Whitman who has since began teaching in another district. "I chose to quit because I could not work there anymore. made about 3 or 4 calls to HR. I did send an email to HR hoping to get something taken care of. My phone calls and my emails were never returned."
Whitman said he was one of dozens of educators who voiced their concerns about their alleged mistreatment at a Katy ISD School Board meeting in 2011.
Two years after that meeting, Katy ISD promoted Perez to principal at McRoberts Elementary.Â
