LA PORTE, Texas – Gilley's could be making a comeback.
There is a push to build a new venue that carries the famous name in La Porte.

However, according to the proposal, it would not be a nightclub like the Pasadena club made famous in the movie "Urban Cowboy."
The proposed complex would be targeted toward families.
It would be located along Highway 146 between West Fairmont Parkway and Wharton Weems Boulevard.
La Porte's planning and zoning commission will vote on the proposal Thursday.
Gilley's was a big draw for Pasadena residents in the 70's and 80's. It burned down in 1990.
According to the proposal, Mickey Gilley is on board with the new venue. He said he wants the brand to return the area -- not as a honky-tonk bar, but something that will make the community proud.
