GALVESTON, Texas – A warning for beachgoers: Several people have reported injuries by stingrays over weekend on Galveston Island.
Despite those reports, people were enjoying Stewart Beach on Monday.
Stingrays aren't' looking for swimmers, but if they do sting, it is painful.
"If you shuffle your feet when you walk in the water, it sends a vibration out and stingrays. Little baby sharks and that stuff will swim away from you," said Peter Davis of the Galveston Island Beach Patrol.
According to Davis, stingrays aren't' trying to attack people, rather most stings happen when people step on a stingray because they are on the ocean floor and the natural reaction is to sting.
If a person gets stung, they need to get medical attention immediately.
