KINGWOOD, Texas – This year’s Small Business Saturday is about more than great buys at local boutiques. It’s hope for those still recovering three months after Hurricane Harvey.
There were a lot of smiles at Pretty Little Things boutique.
“God has been so great to us and I’m so grateful,” Nikole Davis said.
But things have not been so pretty recently. Hurricane Harvey laid a big hit on the business that has been thriving in Kingwood for five years.
“We got about 5 foot of water, so we’re here in our temporary store just for the holidays until our store can be rebuilt,” Davis said.
Davis has set up shop at West Lake Houston and FM 1960 in Humble with Dapper Darlings, another small business that was ravaged by Harvey.
The children’s boutique opened 13 days before Harvey hit but the owner is determined to stay open.
“They want to support people in their neighborhood because these are our neighbors because we live right here in the community and we have a business right here in the community,” Felicia Cumby, with Dapper Darlings, said.
Just down the road, the Mudpie Co. has been around for more than 10 years. The small business is getting back on its feet just in time for the holidays.
"We were closed for two months. We almost didn’t reopen. It was only because of people in the community (who decided) to come and help us,” Amber Mohr said. “We’re all in this community together so it kind of makes it more like not neighbors, but family.”
With the support of the community, the Mudpie Co. has reopened. Pretty Little Things and Dapper Darlings hope to reopen at the beginning of next year.
