Spencer Solves It: Horse whisperer in need of truck repairs

HOUSTON – “Hey Bun-Bun, you want to come out and play, huh?”

Janice Terra grabs her white rabbit Bun-Bun and pulls her in close.

Janice could use a little comforting right now, because the last several years she has been ravaged by health problems.

“Starting in 2011, I literally thought I’d be dead before morning,” Terra said.

Terra has battled a whole list of health horrors, including deep vein thrombosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, heart disease and a dissecting aorta.

For 35 years Terra was known as “The Lady Horse Whisperer,” an expert on training out-of-control horses.

She even worked with famous celebrities like Robert Downey Jr. and his wife.

“I specialized in helping the horses that everyone else had already given up on,” Terra said.

Now, at 68, Terra can no longer do the work she loves.

She survives on just $700 a month in Social Security benefits and lives in a small trailer home.

Even with all that, she was making it, until the transmission on her pickup truck, a vehicle with 265,000 miles on it, bit the dust and quit working.

With no way to pay the $2,500 to $3,000 repair cost to rebuild that transmission, Terra contacted Spencer Solves It for help.

“I always watch you (Bill) on TV and I see that you are genuine, you’re real. I can see that when you help people you really do mean it,” Terra said.

Right away, we reached out to the transmission pros at Mr. Transmission on Houston’s eastside.

Now, they are working on Terra’s blown transmission.

They will do the entire job for free and give Terra a warranty on all parts and labor for one year.

The mechanics will rebuild that complex transmission, a piece of machinery that has between 300 and 400 interconnected parts, and make it like brand-new again.

“For sure, when we properly repair this truck she will be able to get at least another 150,000 to 200,000 miles out of it. She will be fine,” Ronnie Weiss, owner of Mr. Transmission, said.
