HOUSTON – A calf named Hero is getting a second shot at life thanks to a very determined owner.
The cow was rejected at birth by his mother and was neglected by its first owner. Hero had to have his legs amputated after they were destroyed by frost bite.

Hero's current owner Kitty Martin, of Cameron, took him in from Virginia. She says it's been a long journey getting him here to Texas.
"I have given everything I have to get this cow here. Sold everything I had to fund him to get him here. This is like the greatest thing I've ever been through, as for as fulfilling, it's really fulfilling," Martin said.
Hero had his surgery done at Texas A&M University and spent three months there for recovery.
He was given a set of prosthetic legs then, but he grew out of them.
