UPS drivers robbed at gunpoint while delivering packages in West University

WEST UNIVERSITY, Texas – Two UPS drivers were robbed at gunpoint while delivering packages in West University in the middle of the day on Monday, according to authorities.

Surveillance video showed the UPS truck parking in the 2600 block of Talbott Road AT 11:50 a.m. Thirty seconds later, two men in a gray BMW sedan parked nearby.

The UPS employees were sorting packages in the back of the truck when two robbers approached them and demanded their phones, wallets and UPS jackets.

West University Place police are urging people everywhere not to answer their doors if UPS comes by.

Police are also instructing drivers to leave packages at the doorstep.

The robbers are described as black men. One was wearing dark clothes, a hoodie and a backpack.

The other is described as being thin, having facial tattoos and was wearing a gray sleeveless shirt.

The men left the scene six minutes after they arrived. They went west on Talbott and then south on Annapolis Street, police said.

Angi Patton, a West University Place homeowner, was walking her dog down the street as the robbery was coming to an end.

She said she saw bits and pieces of what happened. Patton said the drivers were visibly shaken and did not have their cellphones to dial 911.

Patton said the drivers told her that the robbers demanded they wait 30 seconds in the cargo hold of the truck after they left the scene.

Patton went door-to-door late Monday afternoon, telling her neighbors what happened and warning them to be careful.

UPS officials said their drivers are trained to be aware of their surroundings and that the company's first priority is the safety of its drivers.

Police are checking to see if any homes in the area had surveillance cameras that could help with the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the West University Place Police Department at 713-668-0330 or email them at crime@westutx.gov.
