Woman finds dog with throat slashed in Hockley parking lot

GoFundMe page created in hopes of raising $2K for dog's surgery

WALLER COUNTY, Texas – A woman, who rescued a dog with a slashed throat, is trying to raise money for the animal to get surgery.

"I named her Grace, because she survived by the grace of God. She should have died," said Rawni Johnson.

Johnson found Grace in a parking lot in Hockley as she was pulling in to get to work. She told KPRC 2 News the dog was laying on the ground and tried to come to her but couldn't get up.

"I thought somebody had hit her," said Johnson.

But to Johnson's horror, it was much worse than that. Grace had a deep cut across her neck, from ear to ear.

Johnson said she called the Waller County Sheriff's Office right away.

"They came, they did a report, they looked at her, they said somebody slit her throat," Johnson said.

According to Johnson, the deputy told her Grace had probably been wandering around with her neck injured for several days.

"To think that this little girl walked around like that for days, and nobody noticed, or if they did they turned the other cheek is devastating," she said.

Johnson said she took Grace to the animal emergency clinic right away, and they cleaned the cut and covered it with bandages.

A couple of Johnson's friends adopted Grace. They are now trying to raise money for Grace's surgery.

They have set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising $2,000.
