HOUSTON – Up until this week Chiefs rising star Eric Bieniemy was the target of every NFL that had a head coaching position open except the Texans. That has changed though as the Texans reportedly now have reached out and requested an interview with the Chiefs offensive coordinator.
The question is now will Bieniemy have interest in speaking with Cal McNair and GM Nick Caserio about the job. Quarterback Deshaun Watson has gone on record recently raving about Bieniemy and the job he has done with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. With Watson not happy currently with the process this move would help repair the relationship.
One step at a time.
NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport reported Tuesday that the Texans have made the request and are waiting on a response. The timing would have been better last week with Kansas City on a bye week in the playoffs but now, if he agrees to speak with the Texans, he can’t meet until the Chiefs are done playing. They are the number one seed and the favorite to return to the Super Bowl next month.
