Texans coach DeMeco Ryans downplayed the severity of the injury.

“Beck will be fine,” Ryans said. “He banged his knee up a little bit, but we’ll get further tests. As of right now, looks like he’ll be fine.”

A league source reiterated that the injury isn’t regarded as serious, noting that a magnetic resonance imaging exam may be unnecessary.

UPDATE Beck checked out fine in testing and he is expected to return to practice as soon as Saturday’s workout, per a league source.

Signed to a two-year, $6.75 million free agent contract that includes $4 million guaranteed, Beck is expected to have a versatile, hybrid role in offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s offense that highlighted the skills of tight end George Kittle and fullback Kyle Juszczyk with the San Francisco 49ers. Beck also is slated for a major role on special teams.

Beck had a dropped pass in the 20-9 win over the Patriots.

NOTES: The Texans held out multiple key, healthy players for precautionary reasons, including running back Dameon Pierce, Pro Bowl left offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, wide receivers Robert Woods and Noah Brown, offensive guard Shaq Mason, defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins, defensive end Jerry Hughes and safety Jimmie Ward. Injured players who missed the game: linebacker Christian Kirksey (hamstring), tight end Brevin Jordan (hamstring), safety Brandon Hill (hamstring), offensive lineman Jarrett Patterson (leg), defensive tackle Thomas Booker (wrist), defensive end Dylan Horton (groin) and offensive tackle Tytus Howard. Although Howard has a broken hand in two places that required surgery and the insertion of metal hardware into his hand to aid the healing process, the possibility of him returning in time for the first game against the Baltimore Ravens has not been ruled out, per a league source. ... Shorthanded across the offensive line, the Texans went with George Fant at left tackle, Kenyon Green at left guard, center Juice Scruggs, Michael Deiter at right guard and Austin Deculus at right tackle.
