HOUSTON – There were a lot of big smiles at the Texans’ practice field Thursday, and that included the players and retired players as they surprised Houston Independent School District students with 100 bicycles and helmets at a holiday giveaway.
One-hundred bikes were distributed personally by the players following practice. And the players helped the children put on their helmets and taught them how to ride the bikes, offering encouragement as they got an early Christmas present from the team.

“What an awesome feeling, what an amazing time, Christmas,” Texans long snapper Jon Weeks and Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year candidate told KPRC 2 afterward. “We just wanted to do something to surprise these kids, bring some Christmas joy to them, try to make their day just a little bit better. To see the joy on their faces when they got surprised with their bikes was awesome.
“Getting to talk to them, hanging out with them for a little bit was even more special. It’s something I loved doing early in their career. I’m super excited they brought it back this year and hopefully do it for years to come.”
