STAFFORD, Texas – Two basketball legends teamed up this weekend to host a free clinic, and a basketball tournament at Crossover Athletics in Stafford.
4-time WNBA Champion Cynthia Cooper and 3-time NBA All-Star Steve Francis gave kids basketball training and life lessons Friday, before helping out with a basketball tournament on Saturday and Sunday.
“These kids follow them,” said Tee Barefield, who runs Crossover Athletics and helped set up this event for the second time, with Cooper and Sheryl Swoopes featured last year in a camp for girls. “They’re inspired to do what Cynthia Cooper did, and what Steve Francis did, and our goal is to make it happen.”
“It’s just great to have boys and girls under the same roof,” said Cooper. “We’re just feeding their spirit, feeding their skills, and helping them move to the next level of whatever their dream is.”
“Cynthia and them did a great job last year, but there are a lot of young boys that need some guidance off the court,” said Francis. “I think we’ve done a good job.”
