The Texans are also elevating former Los Angeles Rams safety Russ Yeast for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans from the practice squad, per a league source.

The Texans also elevated rookie defensive end Solomon Byrd with Denico Autry out with a knee injury. Rookie linebacker Jamal Hill was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.

Ross, a former New England Patriots player, has played in nine games this season for the Texans with two starts. He has recorded a career-high 13 tackles. He has appeared in 51 percent of the special teams snaps, 132 overall, 135 defensive snaps for 24 percent of the playing time.

Ross was hardly tested against the Patriots in his first NFL start and he held up fine, allowing just one relatively short catch against rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Ross had three tackles.

Ross signed a one-year contract worth $995,000 last offseason with a nonguaranteed base salary of $985,000 and a $10,000 signing bonus.

Ross was signed to the practice squad Aug. 28, and then promoted to the active roster on Sept. 18.

Yeast, 25, (5-foot-10, 195 pounds) has also played for the Arizona Cardinals.

He played collegiately at Louisville and Kansas State.

He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection.

In the NFL, he has 81 career tackles and five passes defensed.

He’s a former Rams seventh-round pick.
