HOUSTON – If you’re like most Houstonians and didn’t make it to Dodgers Stadium, the Minute Maid Park World Series watch party Tuesday night may have been the next best thing.
Thousands of Astros fans packed into the lower bowl, where they chanted and screamed as if the players were feet away rather than in Los Angeles where they played Game 1.
“We're having a great time just being here,” said Bill Hogue, who could remember watching the Astros play in the Astrodome in the 60s.
Three generations of the Hogue family sat next to each other ready for their team to “earn history”: Bill, his son, Mike, and grandson, Wyatt.
“At his age, for him to experience that would just be amazing,” Mike said of Wyatt, who is 10.
“Man it’s history,” said Ernie Garzan, a family friend of the Hogues. “This is our year! We’re going to make it. Astros (are) No. 1!"
The crowd jumped to their feet after Alex Bregman hit a home run. They sighed in unison after each Dodgers score. The energy was contagious.
Even after the Astros lost, fans at the Juicebox were tireless.
“That’s all right!” Marciano Gonzalez yelled. “We’re going to come back and win the next one! And the next one! And the next one!!”
