HOUSTON – Coming off a huge win over previously No. 3 Louisville, the University of Houston Cougars have put that in the past to focus on Friday's game against Memphis.
With rumors swirling over Charlie Strong's unlikely future with the University of Texas Longhorns, UH head coach Tom Herman was asked Monday about how he has dealt with being a possible front-runner for the job opening.
"Distractions you only see if you take your eyes off your goals. We don't do that around here. We don't worry about things we can't control," Herman said at his weekly news conference. "If you're not preparing to beat Memphis, or you're not doing something that has to do with academics... then what are you doing? How are you helping this program?"
"There are no distractions. Distractions are only things if you let them be," he said.
Linebacker Steven Taylor agreed with his head coach.
"That's completely true," he said. "We don't worry about anything."

Strong was also asked Monday in Austin about his future. He told the media that he will be evaluated after Friday's afternoon game against TCU.
"I want to come back," Strong said. "We are young and have a lot of talent."
Herman said this year's UH football seniors are the winningest class in school history.
"In their junior and senior years, they're 6-0 against Top 25 teams, 3-0 against Top 10 teams and 2-0 against Top 3 teams," Herman said.
The Cougars (9-2) hit the road to play Memphis at 11 a.m. Friday.
