HOUSTON – Cheers for the Harry Potter fanatics? The pop-up bar and restaurant inspired by the beloved franchise will set up at the venue formerly known as The Capitol at St. Germain in downtown Houston. The Muggle-less Bar opened October 16 and will run through November 8 at 711 Main Street. Customers can expect a wizard-inspired food menu and book-inspired alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks like Butter Beer and Polyjuice Potion. The Muggle-less Bar allows guests to experience 2-hour magical schooling of witchcraft & wizardry experience, along with events like trivia nights and live entertainment.

HOUSTON The Saint Arnold Beer Garden and Restaurant reopened for dine-in services after being forced to shut down due to Gov. We had to include all the beer that we shipped to distributors in our calculation, said founder Brock Wagner. The brewery was forced to shut down with no timetable for when they might be able to reopen. The brewery was still doing curbside but lost about 20 to 25 percent of total sales when they were forced to close down. Late Friday night, the brewery was informed they could reopen after the state adjusted the language in the order.

HOUSTON The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has temporarily suspended another Houston-area bars alcohol permits for 30 days after it refused to comply with an executive order from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott requiring that bars cease operations to limit the spread of COVID-19. Prospect Park Restaurants location at 3100 Fountain View Drive is among the seven bars listed by the TABC. The order TABC says the establishment failed to comply with was issued by Abbott on June 26. The order requires all bars earning at least 51% of their revenue from sales of alcohol to suspend operations.

SEABROOK, Texas – A Seabrook bar defiantly reopened Sunday night after the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission suspended its permit for 30 days for not following health guidelines Saturday. In a post on Facebook, the bar wrote that they “will fight” the temporary license suspension. Jeff Schafer, general manager of BARge 295 told KPRC 2 the establishment has been operating in accordance with Governor Greg Abbott’s guidelines. Schafer said he does not believe the citation is legal and told KPRC 2 Barge 295 owners plan to appeal. According to TABC, a second citation could result in a 60-day liquor license suspension.

HOUSTON The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) temporarily suspended the permits of 12 bars in Texas, including a popular Houston bar, as the agency continues to crack down on establishments that are not complying with Gov. HandleBar Houston on Washington Avenue was among the seven bars that were caught Sunday in violation of orders during an undercover investigation by TABC, officials said. Operation Safe Open is an effort by TABC agents to inspect businesses across Texas to ensure theyre following protocols to slow the spread of COVID-19, officials wrote. TABC is strictly monitoring bar and restaurant activity and will pursue emergency license suspensions if there are violations that are a threat to public health and safety, officials wrote. TABC has the authority to suspend any license that poses a continuing threat to the public welfare.

HOUSTON Nearby businesses are boarding up Friday after an early morning explosion at Bar 5015 in Houstons Museum District that investigators say was intentionally set. Catch the person who did it, said Marlon Brooks, the owner of Brooks Family BBQ. While some businesses were damaged in the explosion, others were destroyed including a trailer for Brooks Family BBQ that was also set up on the bars property. Ive got an opportunity to kind of rebuild and weather the storm until this COVID thing is over, Brooks said. The business has since set up a GoFundMe page to help raise funds to rebuild.

HOUSTON – The roof of the historic The Dixie Chicken bar in College Station collapsed Wednesday night after heavy rain and hail passed through the area, causing the iconic bar and grill to close its doors indefinitely. (Image courtesy of Ashley Walton) (KPRC)According to Adam Drake, marketing director for Dixie Chicken Incorporated, the College Station staple has been around since 1974 and has weathered plenty of storms in the past. He said about 80 people were inside the Dixie Chicken when the roof gave in. Officials at the scene told KBTX that people were inside the bar when the roof collapsed but no one was injured.

Across from Market Square park sits a two-story brick building filled with more than 175 years of rich history.
