Read full article: ‘Bigs in Blue’: HPD Chief Art Acevedo announces youth program in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters organizationHOUSTON – Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo and Greater Houston Police Activities League (GHPAL) officers held a news conference to announce a new partnership with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. According to the news release, the new program will be called “Bigs in Blue” and is being done for National Mentor Month. The Greater Houston Police Activities League said they are actively recruiting Houston area youth ages 8-18 and adult volunteers to participate in athletic, educational and mentoring activities. The program uses recreational activities to help build relationships with the police department and youth. The program’s goal is to reduce juvenile crime and violence through “Relational Policing,” which includes building trusting relationships among youth, law enforcement and the community.
