Desmond Bertrand-Pitts, CEO of the museum and the founder’s grandson, filed a police report that said someone spray-painted the building between Monday and Tuesday. Tuesday was National Buffalo Soldiers Day. In 1866, through an act of Congress, legislation was adopted to create six all African American Army units, now known as the buffalo soldiers. I haven’t lost faith in the people, because I know there is more good than there is bad,” said Bertrand-Pitts.

In 2008, they bought a building from the city of Houston and on Saturday, which is appropriately Veterans Day, they will finally realize their dream. Yes, it’s existed in this space for some time but now all floors of the building are fully renovated. All of this began as a retirement project for U.S. army veteran of the Vietnam War, Capt. I thank the Lord every day, every morning that I rise it give me the opportunity to put together an exhibit that demonstrates the heritage of the African American soldier,” said Matthews, founder of Buffalo Soldier Museum.
