Two VYPE Preseason Top 20 teams Summer Creek faced Cypress Creek in the McDonalds Invitational over the weekend.

Coach Robinson (third state title) continued to throw big guards and towering posts at Cy Creek all game. AdThe scary thing is that DeSoto will be back next season, headlined by the 4-Star Smith -- also the Title Game MVP.

That duo, along with Taylor Jackson, have been pulling on a Cypress Creek uniform for four years since their freshman campaign. This group of seniors – Harmon, Hunter, Jackson, Ri'yah Francis and Haleen Harris – won't be soon forgotten on the corner of Grant and Perry Road in Houston, Texas. State Week for both the UIL boys and girls basketball seasons. After all the games, all the upsets, the Top 2 ranked teams (TABC rankings) in the state meet for the right to hoist the 6A State Championship trophy. Cypress Creek was 41-0 last year heading into the State Championship before losing to Duncanville. A lot of the 2019-20 Frisco Liberty team returned but the team only finished third in 9-5A behind state-ranked Frisco Lone Star and Frisco Memorial. AdThrough a strong defensive mindset, Liberty is back at the State Championship game - marking its third straight trip to the finals.

Cypress Creek has never been past the second round of the playoffs but that all could change in 2021. In 16 games last year, Thomas hit .619 with 21 RBIs, slugging nine home runs along the way. Other key returners include Madison Battle (Texas Southern), Jordan Peno (Sam Houston State) and Delayne Moreno (University of St. Thomas). Peno hit .455 with 18 RBIs, while Battle hit .385 with 11 RBIs and five doubles last year. One of the bigger early games was Cypress Creek facing Fort Bend Travis at the Merrell Center. The Cougars haven't been to the Regional Quarters since 2003, while FB Travis has made deep playoff runs recently. Can DJ spin hits for Cypress Creek? The Cypress Creek Cougars had a nice season in 2019-20 going 24-12 and 13-3 in district play. If DJ Richards has anything to do with it, the Cougars will have a big year. The 6-foot-5 combo guard will have some assistance for Jaylen Wysinger and Braylon Haynes. Wysinger moved in from St. Pius X, while Haynes and Corey Hadnott add much-needed depth to take down the likes of Memorial and Cy-Fair.

The timing of the Michael Jordan documentary this year was perfect, and it really correlates to Cypress Creek. The University of Texas-signees are back for their senior year and will pace this team. The TABC All-State selections led the team in scoring as Hunter averaged 20 points per game, while Harmon averaged 15.6 points per night. Taylor Jackson returns for her senior year as well after averaging 9.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last season. Other key returners include Ri'yah Francis (4.6 ppg, 3.8 rpg) and Krishawn Lee, who played in 34 games last season as a freshman.

The Memorial Mustangs aren't flashy but they get job done. The 'Stangs beat Cy Creek 17-7 to remain in second in district play with an overall record of 6-2. Sophomore Mason Sanders has emerged as a solid QB1 for Memorial while Carson Zahn is carrying the mail on the ground with over 800 yards on the season. Next up is Cypress Ridge. Cypress Creek is in a must-win situation next week against Jersey Village to get into the postseason.

Look one way and there was the TAPPS 6A State Champion Village School Vikings. Look the other way there was the Class 6A State Runner-Up Cypress Creek Cougars. Then there was George Ranch, Langham Creek, Atascocita, Foster, Summer Creek, North Shore and the list goes on and on of quality teams and talent on display. "It's definitely good for the girls game," Cypress Creek senior Rori Harmon, a Texas-commit, said. In one of the final games of the evening, Cypress Creek played Village School, which pitted Harmon against Jada Malone, a Texas A&M-commit.

READ: Ambulance company refunds tax dollars following Channel 2 investigationThe administrator of the maintenance facility also left CCEMS shortly after the Channel 2 Investigation. Nealy initially filed the complaint of employee theft with HCSO after Channel 2 Investigates had a van’s breaks fixed at the ambulance maintenance facility with $100 cash. Channel 2 Investigates also uncovered a series of invoices on the official Cypress Creek EMS account that included various parts for cars and trucks not in the Cypress Creek EMS fleet.

HOUSTON – Carl Benge has a lot more horses to feed at his ranch in Hockley, in Harris County. He welcomed the rescue horses here after their old home flooded. We go into kill pens and we rescue them,” said Megan Cardet, the founder and president of the group A Place for Peanut. It is a nonprofit sanctuary that rescues horses.
