A new Louisiana congressional map giving the state a second majority-Black House district has been rejected by a panel of federal judges.

A sleeping child was struck by a bullet overnight, Harris County deputies said.

A church and an attached residence were engulfed in flames Thursday night in north Houston, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office. HOUSTON – A North Houston church and attached home were damaged by a fire Thursday night and investigators believe it was started by homeless individuals trying to stay warm. First responders arrived around 10 p.m. to find the Emmanuel Deliverance Temple in the 4700 block of Littlecrest burning. Assistance was requested of the Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office whose investigators determined the fire began as a warming fire which got out of control. A freshman congressman has won a second term in Congress in U.S. House District 2, according to a projection by the Associated Press. The oddly shaped district, which runs from southwest Houston, out to west Harris County, up to north Houston and then east to the Kingwood area, has been in Republican hands since 2005. U.S. Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the Republican incumbent, won election after former U.S. Rep. Ted Poe retired from Congress. Sima Ladjevardian, the Democratic challenger, served as a senior advisor and finance chair to the O’Rourke campaign during both his 2018 Senate bid and his 2020 presidential run.
