The UIL and TAPPS basketball seasons wrapped up its respective seasons last week through the weekend. Duncanville (boys), Argyle (boys), DeSoto (girls), Dallas Bishop Lynch (girls) and Fort Worth Southwest Christian (girls) all were crowned state champions over the last week. Like I did for the football season, I'm going to offer up some top-of-mind, knee-jerk predictions for the 2021-22 season - so here we go. With her continued growth and another stacked team coming back in 2021-22, Lake Dallas will be a team to be feared in 5A. The 2021-22 tournament season is going to be crazy and a welcome return to normalcy.

2 ranked Duncanville forced 18 turnovers against Richardson on Tuesday night en route to a 68-49 UIL 6A State. Behind incredible defense from Damon Nicholas and Juan Reyna as well as an offense that refused to slow down, the Panthers forged their way to the UIL 6A Championship game. This will be the Panthers' fifth appearance in the State Title game where they will play No. Although the season was canceled last year before Duncanville could play their semifinal game in hopes of back-to-back titles, the Panthers have a history of excellence. They never lost a title game winning it all in 1991, 1999, 2007, and 2019.

Three years later, Frisco Liberty returned to state only to fall to a tough Amarillo team. The last game of the weekend is a matchup of strength vs. strength in another playoff rematch from a year ago. 6A Division I State SemifinalJust as the 6A Division II semifinal was an intriguing rematch from last year, so is this one as Southlake Carroll and Duncanville lock horns. The main matchup within the game will be the scheme Southlake runs on offense to offset Duncanville's attacking front. Duncanville can stop the run, but thinking Carroll will rely solely on the passing game is something it cannot do. PICK: Duncanville has the athletes and talent that should give it a leg up over Carroll.

The Saturday slate of games at The Temple brings another tripleheader full of area's big-name teams and the state's top talent. Trinity leaned all the way on its stud junior running back for 455 yards, six TDs and upset Allen. Cedar Hill, on the other hand, prefers to keep the game more in balance with precision offense and stingy defense. Only one Cedar Hill game this year had both teams scoring in the 40s. In the other 10 games, the scoring average of the two teams was 48 points per game combined.

Playoffs in 4A and below are a week old, and we're nearing the end of the 6A, 5A and private school regular seasons. Because of this pandemic-caused overlap in schedules, there's a lot to unpack from this past week, but here are five of the most keen observations. TAPPS Playoffs Will Be FunParish Episcopal won a very entertaining state title rematch with Plano John Paul II a couple weeks ago. This past week, Fort Worth Nolan took down Parish in a 1-vs-2 matchup, scoring 31 unanswered points. Well it did Friday night against a state-ranked team, which should serve notice of what to expect come playoff time.

There is quite the bevy of games this week across the DFW high school football landscape. He's seen what big-time Texas football looks like, having been an assistant at Duncanville. The defense will lead the way with DL Roland Trent, LB Devonte Allison and DB Chandler Rivers.
