The tests will allow them to test students and staff members at schools with Teen Health Center facilities. There are five Teen Health Center Facilities within Galveston ISD. Brown said the rapid COVID-19 tests are 98% accurate and are available within 15 minutes of taking the test. Rudolph said about 20 rapid COVID-19 tests were performed Thursday.

According to Galveston ISD, school officials received a complaint about a district employee and a student on Aug. 28. Galveston ISD said they placed the employee on "administrative leave" on that date and later turned the case over to police because of its "serious nature." Durand was charged with one count of indecency with a child by contact, indecency with a child by exposure and improper relationship between educator and student. The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches also named a Larry Durand "Coach of the Year" for the 2014-2015 year.
