Prosecutors say a gun that a former Ohio sheriff's deputy said a man was waving at him when he fatally shot him in the back in 2020 was found in the man’s kitchen with the safety on.

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick called for the Texas Rangers to investigate how Gonzalo Lopez, a convicted murderer, was able to escape Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) custody, elude capture for 21 days, and perpetuate the brutal murder of Mark Collins and his four grandsons on June 2.

The funeral service for five members of the Collins family will take place Saturday in northwest Harris County.

A newly released medical examiner's report says a Texas grandfather and his four grandsons who were killed by a prison escapee died from gunshots, sharp force injuries and stab wounds.

The alleged details had not been disclosed in the information Columbus police and the Ohio Attorney General's office have put out since the Dec. 22 shooting. There were two more interactions between the two men before Coy can be seen on bodycam footage shooting Hill. Coy was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday following a monthlong investigation by the Ohio Attorney General's Office into the fatal shooting. Franklin County Court Magistrate Elizabeta Saken set the bond after Collins unsuccessfully argued for a bond between $25,000 and $250,000.
