An investigation was launched at the New Caney Independent School District after officials there said seven students at Keefer Crossing Middle School ate gummies infused with THC.

Several middle school students at Keefer Crossing Middle School were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after ingesting THC-laced gummies, according to officials with New Caney Independent School District.

A teacher from the New Caney Independent School District has resigned after she was recently charged for having improper relationship with a student.

The district told KPRC 2 that it could not reveal which students were infected but said the local health department, parents and staff were notified about the positive cases. The district also did not say how many students had contracted the virus. New Caney ISD released the following written statement to KPRC 2:“The district follows a standard response protocol in the event of confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students or staff. Impacted students or staff are moved to the remote instruction model.”Students in New Caney ISD went back to in-person learning on Sept. 8.

PORTER, Texas – A teacher with the New Caney Independent School District resigned after she was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student, officials said. Rhiannon Petty, 41, faces an improper relation between educator and student charge. New Caney ISD said Petty was employed with the district for four years and was placed on administrative leave while the investigation was pending but she later resigned. In a statement, New Caney ISD said it that student safety was the district’s top priority. “The district is fully cooperating with the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office and cannot comment further as this is an active investigation,” district officials wrote.
