Pride Houston is asking the public to vote for who should be this year’s grand marshals for the 2022 Houston LGBT Pride Celebration.

Pride Houston is opting for a block party in Montrose instead of the 2021 Pride Parade in September due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and Delta variant in the Houston area.

Nearly 50 years ago, the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York were considered the beginning of the modern LGBTQ rights movement. The historical riot was the spark that helped ignite Houston’s first gay and lesbian organization in the early 70s. However, the city didn’t celebrate its first parade celebration almost a decade later.

Pride Houston announced this years Pride Houston celebration will take the form of a rally and march at City Hall as a show of solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. It is with a determined mind that we at Pride Houston, Inc. have decided that this years Pride Celebration will be a rally and march at Houston City Hall on June 27, 2020. The George Floyd murder met us at a time where we as a community fully understand that all black lives matter. Thus, the Black Lives Matter movement is also an LGBTQ movement. Pride Houston welcomes all Houstonians and city officials to attend.
