Punxsutawney Phil’s offspring have names that just might help the famed weather-forecasting groundhog to predict when spring will begin.

Start handing out those groundhog-size cigars: Punxsutawney Phil is a father.

Punxsutawney Phil has forecasted an early spring from the largest and best-known Groundhog Day celebration in the United States at an overcast Gobbler’s Knob in western Pennsylvania.

The spotlight returns to Gobbler’s Knob in western Pennsylvania this week, when handlers of a groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil will announce his verdict — six more weeks of winter or an early spring.

He gets most of the PR, at least nationally, but Punxsutawney Phil isn't the only groundhog to purport to predict the weather.

A furry critter in a western Pennsylvania town has predicted six more weeks of winter during an annual Groundhog Day celebration.

So, how well do you believe Punxsutawney Phil’s ability to judge whether there will be an early spring?

You know you’re Texan when you call today Armadillo Day and not Groundhog Day.

I guess this is a case of “pick your groundhog” for today as any furry forecaster in Houston faced a foggy morning: so no shadow means an early spring! On the other hand, the more famous and fawned over Punxsutawney Phil DID see his shadow in the early Pennsylvania morning declaring six more weeks of winter. If you don’t recall, that shadow tells Phil to get back in his hovel and prepare for more cold.

There will be six more weeks of winter.

Today is what I like to call ‘drizzerable’ which is pretty much self-explanatory.

I know it’s silly to some, but we do know that the groundhog really exists (unlike some of our favorites). Like any good forecaster, Punxsutawney Phil takes great pride in telling us all what the future will bring. In case you forgot, if Phil sees his shadow then obviously it’s a sunny, clear day and we get six more weeks of winter. What you might not know is this all started around the Christian holiday, Candlemas, which is Feb. 2. The Americans went with a groundhog, and since 1886 that groundhog has been Punxsutawney Phil!

Voters across the country are casting their ballot early in the 2020 Presidential Election, and that’s no different for a squirrel named ChrisChris. “The Squirrel Vote” puts to the test ChrisChris' ability to see if he’ll correctly choose the winner of the 2020 election in November. The way the vote works is that 10 nuts will be placed in two separate bowls that have each candidate’s name attached to it. Whichever one he eats the most hazelnuts out of will be determined the winner.
