Coming off Second Baptist School’s playoff win Friday night, Head Football Coach Beck Brydon was in the weight room when he learned defensive back coach, D.J. Hayden had passed.

The 2023 Texas High School Football season is underway and with that come the Preseason Private School football offensive and defensive All-VYPE Teams.

From team and individual pictures, social media shout-outs and video interviews, it is all there for the student-athletes to feel like a superstar. VYPE had its Second Baptist School 2023 Fall Media Day recently.

Football, baseball and girls basketball each advanced the State Final Four, but only one team hoisted the TAPPS State Title… girls sand volleyball.

After spending nearly two decades as the head football coach and eventual athletic director for Austin Regents, Beck Brydon has now taken the reins of the Eagles’ program as their new head coach moving forward.

AFTER NOT HAVING ENOUGH PLAYERS TO MAKE A FULL ROSTER A FEW SEASONS BACK, COACH JORDAN BLACK TOOK OVER THE FBCA FOOTBALL PROGRAM AND THE REST IS HISTORY.

Despite starting the season with a 3-4 record, Fort Bend Christian would subsequently win the next six games, including a 41-14 rebuttal to SBS in the Semifinals, en route to the school’s first TAPPS State Championship in their 42-30 victory against All Saints.

The Second Baptist School is one of the most prestigious institutions in the city of Houston. The goal of athletics at SBS has always been to provide an environment of competition, cooperation and teamwork for its students that will glorify God and provide valuable life lessons.

Second Baptist School had three athletes sign to continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level earlier this month. VYPE was on hand at the Second Baptist School signing day to catch all the action and talk with the athletes and AD Mike Walker about the day and more!!

There aren’t many teams in Texas that can match the elite level of play of Second Baptist School women’s basketball. Consistency is key on the court, and SBS has no trouble delivering on that on an annual basis.
