Officers with Houston Police Department are searching for a motorcyclist that led them on a high-speed chase near downtown early Sunday.

The Brazos Bridge on US 59 (Spur 527) that runs over Smith St and Holman St in Midtown has reopened. This is the area we’re talking about where the City of Houston decided to reconstruct the Brazos Street Bridge on the Spur 527, instead of creating a progressive green space concept some people wanted. The city’s planner tells Traffic Expert Anavid Reyes they worked hard to improve the intersection where Bagby, Smith and Holman street all come together underneath the Brazos Street Bridge for this type of active transportation. improvement schematic designThe plan is to rebuild the Brazos Street Bridge on the Spur 527 first. The goal for the Bagby/ Holman/Smith street intersection underneath that bridge is to make it safer, especially because right now, residents say it’s not. An update for drivers: the southbound turning lane from Smith onto Holman Street will also be removed at this intersection because not a lot of people use it anyway.

HOUSTON – You might recall recently a portion of Spur 527 into downtown was closed after part of the deck fell. According to the Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Houston Public Works Department, this was a 50-year-old structure and was closed to ensure the public's safety and to bring the bridge up to current standards. That structure is just one of 1,400 bridges in Houston that are inspected every six months. We connected with Frank Leong of TxDOT and Walter Hambrick of the Public Works Department to find out. They note how it feels to ride over the bridge and also look back on previous inspections to list what has gotten worse.
