This constitutes a mass grave,” state archaeologist Kary Stackelbeck said. Stackelbeck said it was too early to say definitely that the remains are victims of the massacre, even though they were found near an area known as the “Original 18,” where funeral home records indicate massacre victims were buried. There are two headstones in the Original 18 marking the graves of two massacre victims, but the area where the remains were found Wednesday is unmarked. “We have not yet made our assessment to say that these do actually represent the massacre victims,” Stackelbeck said.

The Tulsa Health Department does not publicly identify where potential virus transmissions occurred, so it's not clear how many people contracted COVID-19 at Trump’s rally. A spokesman for the Republican governor, who also attended Trump's rally without wearing a mask, acknowledged that members of Stitt's cabinet were briefed on Wendelboe's projections ahead of the rally. Stitt was the first U.S. governor to publicly acknowledge testing positive for COVID-19, although he has said he did not contract it at the Trump rally.

"Both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate. While the family said they stand for America and democracy, they believe President Donald Trump does not represent "noble ideals of either." CNN has reached out to the Trump campaign for comment.

Its been more than three months since the nation last saw a Trump rally. He dismissed complaints that bringing together throngs for an indoor rally risked spreading the coronavirus as nothing more than politics. Republican strategist Alex Conant said the rally gives the president a chance to reset his campaign after a couple of tough months. The Tulsa rally is trying to ignite some momentum in a campaign thats been going nowhere, Conant said. Campaign officials said that Trump would focus on what they call the great American comeback. White House officials continue to project strong growth numbers for the U.S. economy in the third and fourth quarters.

I think there's no question that indoor events are more risky than outdoor events. Lessler said large events like the rally or the protests have the potential to be super spreader events, but their potential to drive the pandemic is short-lived. Attendees will also undergo a temperature check, but there will be no required social distancing at the indoor event expected to be at capacity. Trump also plans an outdoor event, and officials are expecting about 100,000 people to converge on the city. Six members of the advance team tested positive out of hundreds of tests performed, and quarantine procedures were immediately implemented. No COVID-positive staffers or anyone in immediate contact will be at today's rally or near attendees and elected officials. The Trump campaign has said that it takes "safety seriously," and noted hand sanitizer, temperature checks and masks will be provided to attendees, though actually wearing a mask won't be required.

The states new standards are going out to schools as a national conversation on racial injustice brings new scrutiny to how African American history is taught nationwide. There is no national curriculum or set of standards for teaching black history in America. A University of Texas professor involved in developing the curriculum, Kevin Cokley, said his college students say they are taught a sanitized version of black history in high school. King provided training last year for 300 educators around the country who are interested in teaching black history. The push for diversity in education so far has led to mostly cosmetic changes, he said, without enough emphasis on the entry points and perspective of black history.
