Wearing a yellow jumpsuit, 51-year-old Elmer Manzano had a bandage wrapped around his right arm and used headphones for a translator during his appearance. Manzano is charged with capital murder, attempted capital murder and aggravated assault after being accused of killing HPD Sgt. Manzano was also shot in the stomach by Preston during the gunfire exchange and was hospitalized for nearly a week. During a probable cause hearing Sunday, prosecutors said Manzano claimed officers shot at him first before he returned fire.
