Fort Bend County public libraries reopen to indoor visitors

Library members will now be able to visit the following locations in person: George Memorial Library in Richmond, Cinco Ranch Branch Library in Katy, Missouri City Branch Library, Sienna Branch Library, and the University Branch Library in Sugar Land. According to Fort Bend County Libraries, the reopening permits visitors to browse book collections, complete a library-card application in person, use the computers and use study rooms on a limited basis. Additionally, Fort Bend County residents are able to check out mobile WiFi hotspots and launchpads on a first-come, first-served basis. AdThose unable to wear masks can utilize curbside pick-up service, which remains available at all locations including those now reopened.

In a section called The Vault, website visitors can see some stunning artifacts from Texas’ history. An online bookstore is also available to purchase books online, where part of each purchase supports the Texas Library and Archives Foundation. Researchers and users can also visit a list of free resources to find more than 750,000 archives, books, documents and photos. The online library is supported by donations and can be made in honor of a loved one, teacher or friends.

According to Texas Health and Human Services, libraries may be reopened and operate at 75% occupancy; however, the Houston Public Library (HPL) system remains closed due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The library system began a phased reopening on June 1, offering curbside pick-up through our HPL TO GO service. Additionally, HPL continues to offer public wifi outside of all its libraries.
