HOUSTON – Welcome to February, where we see sunsets in the 6 p.m. hour for the first time since Nov. 4.
Our first sunset in the 6 p.m. hour comes on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. on the dot.
We’ll continue seeing our sunsets get later every day through the month, and sunrises will get earlier, too.
Later sunsets and earlier sunrises mean we have more sunshine during the day. On Dec. 21, we had the winter solstice, our shortest day of the year. We saw 10 hours, 14 minutes, and 2 seconds of daylight on the solstice. On Thursday, we have 10 hours, 47 minutes, and 14 seconds of daylight, meaning we have gained 33 minutes of daylight since December. We’ll keep gaining daylight through the summer. If you’re curious about our longest days, we have over 14 hours of daylight in most of June. What a treat!
We start to enjoy later sunsets after we “spring forward.” Starting March 10, our sunsets will be in the 7 p.m. hour. Starting May 3, we will have sunsets starting at 8 p.m.
On Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m., we will set our clocks forward by one hour, meaning our sunrise will go from 6:37 a.m. to 7:37 a.m., and our sunset will go from 6:26 p.m. to 7:27 p.m.
Enjoy our longer days and all of the sunshine that comes with it.
