Tonight’s Forecast:
Expect temps to stay steamy through most of Friday night and into the weekend. It will feel like the low 90s for a few hours after sunset. Overnight, we don’t cool that much, only back down into the upper to mid 70s. If you are in the city, expect it to stay closer to 80 through Saturday morning.
Heat warnings this holiday weekend:
The reason for this oppressive heat is a dome of high pressure over southern Mexico. We’re on the outer edge of this high. This is doing two things. First, it’s keep the severe weather north of us and second, it’s giving us a lot of heat. Temperatures climb to the mid-90s this weekend with the hottest day of the year expected Sunday and Memorial Day Monday. In fact, Monday may set or tie a record high of 96° from 2004. And the humidity also continues to go up. Sunday and Monday’s heat index will range from 106°-110°. Heat warnings go into effect when the heat index goes above 108° and that’s where we’ll be this weekend. Be safe, these are record setting feels like numbers for the month of May.
Memorial Day Forecast:
Memorial Day will be sizzling hot with temperatures reaching the mid-90s with a heat index 106°-110°. For more on our Memorial Day forecast, check out this article.
10-Day Forecast:
There is slight relief in the forecast. A front on Tuesday will lower temperatures to the 80s next week. We’ll also get slightly lower morning temperatures and a lower humidity.
