Saturday’s Forecast:
Saturday will be hot and humid with highs in the mid-90s and a heat index temperature ranging from 106° - 110°. Houston, and most of southeast Texas are in a heat advisory from noon to 7pm. Tracking the tropics:
The area of storms in the Caribbean remains disorganized but the chance of becoming a tropical storm or depression has gone up a little. It’s combating dry air and lots of land in front of it that inhibit tropical development. It has a 30% chance of development this weekend. No impact to southeast Texas is expected. The area of high pressure over Texas is preventing any kinds of effects for us.
More concerning is the tropical system in the eastern Atlantic, about 1400 miles E-SE of the Windward Islands. This will become our first hurricane of the year. This storm is moving westward at 15 to 20mph. It will approach the Windward Islands by the end of the weekend.
This wave is moving toward the Caribbean Sea in the middle of next week. While it is still to early to say what impacts this could bring to the Gulf Coast, it almost certainly will bring elevated rip current risks for the 4th of July weekend.
10-Day Forecast:
Temperatures get hotter next week with Houston getting close to 100°. The 4th is firecracker hot!
