Get ready Houston! Showers and storms ramp up late week

Will not be a washout

We will be wetter than normal as we head into the end of July. (Copyright 2024 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

As we head towards the middle of the week, it’s tempting to focus on the weekend! Unfortunately, our weekend forecast looks soggy.

We have at least a 50% chance for showers and storms daily starting Friday.

So why will we see such stormy conditions?

It’s a cold front! It is July so don’t expect any cool down, but it will bring showers and storms that could lower the temperatures. Right now, this front is pushing into Oklahoma, but by Thursday it will be in Central Texas increasing our rain chances.

By Friday, the front will stall out in central Texas. This will increase rain chances for us, and especially our northern counties.

The big question is how long the front lingers in our area. Right now, it looks like it will stay there through at least the weekend.

So what does this mean? This means we will have a chance for street flooding and you need to prepare to spend more time driving through the week. Clean up the drains around your house to lower your chances of flooding. With any thunderstorm we can quickly get a few inches of rainfall.

I saved the best part for last - the rainfall will bring cooler temperatures. Our normal high this time of year is in the mid-90s (the last two year we were in the 100s) but we will stay in the upper-80s and lower-90s for most of the 10 day forecast.

This is cooler than normal, but don’t plan on stopping the A/C!
